In Victoria registration is now mandatory for all professional engineers across the five areas of engineering (fire safety, civil, structural, electrical and mechanical). The Victorian Engineers Registration Scheme is a co-regulatory model where assessment is undertaken by an approved assessment entity prior to the engineer applying for registration with the Building Licensing Authority (BLA).
If you have not lodged your application for registration with the BLA, you must not provide professional engineering services until your application is approved by the BLA.
Professionals Australia (PA) is an approved assessment entity, authorised to undertake assessment for registration in Victoria for members and non- members in the following disciplines*:
- Civil
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Structural
Please note that PA does not handle assessments for Building Endorsement of Fire Safety.
Application Types
We offer several application types depending on your membership status with PA:

- Standalone VIC assessment: Exclusively for Victorian registration.
- Dual assessment: Simultaneous assessment for RPEng + Victorian registration. Dual assessments do not extend the process beyond a standalone VIC assessment; they simply require evidence of 50 CPD hours to fulfill the RPEng component.
- PA member with pre-existing RPEng status: No further assessment needed. You can request an outcome report letter for submission to the BLA.
