Professionals Australia appoints first female National President

Professionals Australia is delighted to introduce Katie Havelberg as Professionals Australia’s National President.

This is a historic appointment for the union, as Katie is the first female as well as the first scientist to fill the National President role at Professionals Australia.

Katie has been a member of the union and a workplace delegate for more than 14 years and is a long-serving member of the National Assembly. Katie is now in her fifth year serving as a member of our National Board, first as National Vice President and more recently as Senior National Vice President.

She has been a member and workplace delegate of Professionals Australia for more than 14 years, and is a long-serving member of the National Assembly representing scientists.

She is currently President of the Professional Scientists division, after time spent as committee member, Secretary, and Vice-President, and the scientist member of the Queensland state committee. She is passionate about building membership and empowering members to create change, and committed to giving professionals the voice they deserve.

Katie is a Medical Scientist currently working in a policy advisory role after many varied roles including as a Transfusion Medicine Scientific Advisor; 10 years in the field of white cell & platelet immunogenetics; blood donations testing and processing; a stint in Industrial Relations; and 6 years of teaching yoga on the side. She holds a Master's degree in Health Service Management as well as various qualifications in leadership, governance and change management.
