Changes to superannuation
- There is now a statutory definition of casual employment;
- Casual employees can request conversion to permanent employment after 12 months’ continuous service.
You may have also heard that the Federal Government announced that as part of the 2021–22 federal Budget, it will remove the $450 per month threshold to expand coverage of super guarantee to eligible employees regardless of their monthly pay.
This is a welcome measure for many employees in casual, irregular and insecure employment. However, this measure is not in law yet and is expected to take effect from 1 July 2022. You can contact the Australian Taxation Office
for more information and advice on superannuation. We will keep you updated on any developments.
